On Sunday September 17, 75,000 climate organizers, activists, and frontline community members from around the world gathered in New York City for the March to End Fossil Fuels organized by Fridays for Future.
The rallying cries heard throughout Manhattan were a clear message to President Joe Biden—as long as we continue investing in and burning fossil fuels, we cannot guarantee a safe and liveable future with clean air and water for all.
The demands of the march are as follows:
- Stop Federal Approvals
- Phase out fossil fuel drilling
- Declare a climate emergency
- Provide a just transition
The march follows one of the hottest summers in history, with record-breaking natural disasters to boot. Just last week, extreme flooding in Libya killed over 11,000 people and the search for 10,000 more missing in the city of Derna alone is still underway. We cannot wait for things to get worse. Everyone has a stake in this fight, and it’s up to all of us to make some noise in order to ensure our voices are heard
